A handmade accordion book with chipboard and paper, designed using images and poetry collected from archives that have been cut out and collaged together with an x-acto knife and rubber cement. snippets explores imaginary spaces and connections within the mind.

For this accordion book project, I started by looking at the images I had saved over the years, digitally and physically. I wanted this project to be full of “found” items. Items that had been collected before but not with any intention of bringing it together. After sorting through these images I digitally went in and created a mock-up of the collage. I did this page by page, but while viewing the accordion book as a full, long, connected piece of art. Each page is meant to stand on its own, not particularly telling a complete story, as this is more up to the viewer to make those own connections, just as I made my own connections through the collected images. The words were cut out from a book that was gifted to me many years ago, 101 Great American Poems. After compiling the collages physically into the accordion book, I flipped through this book and found snippets of poems that stood out to me - either as interesting strings of words or as an interesting juxtaposition against the images/scenes.

The book itself is 4x6 inches. I specifically made this the same size as a standard photo print size. I wanted this book, an object, to feel common and comfortable. The paper is recycled paper in a cream color, each page has a hinge on it that is glued with rubber cement onto the next page (thus making the accordion folds), the front and back cover is made out of chipboard and left uncovered.
